On average, every 28 days, all women who are between menarche and menopause have an appointment with menstruation. 1. Chamomile tea

Your parents or grandparents may have offered you chamomile remedies every time you felt bad or had a medical condition. Although chamomile does not work for everything, it is very useful for treating dysmenorrhea. This is due to its antispasmodic properties, which relieve pain, and anti-inflammatories, which deflate the pelvic area.

The University of Michigan made a report on natural remedies that could help improve this problem, in which, first, is chamomile.


  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon chamomile (15 g)

What should you do?

  • Boil water in a pot and add chamomile tea leaves. You can also add some other herb like melissa.
  • Wait for the leaves to color the water to form the infusion.
  • Serve hot and sweeten to taste.

2. Basil infusion

Thanks to caffeic acid, basil is ideal to reduce inflammation and soothe menstrual cramps. We can ingest an infusion of basil in the morning and another at night to take advantage of these effects.


  • 1 tablespoon basil leaves (15 g)
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)

What should you do?

  • Heat the water and, before it boils, add the basil leaves so that they cover the entire surface.
  • Let infuse for five minutes.
  • Remove and wait for it to cool to take it.

3. Ginger tea


Naturally, ginger is one of the natural elements that have the full capacity to reduce the pain of dysmenorrhea. Mainly, this is due to its antispasmodic properties.

Unlike basil, the consumption of this infusion can be reduced and taken once a day.


  • 2 tablespoons ginger root (30 g)
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)

What should you do?

  • Cut the ginger root into small pieces or grate.
  • Heat water in a pot and add the pieces.
  • Wait for it to infuse 5 minutes, remove and serve.

4. Thyme oil

Thyme is a plant that is confused with common weeds but that gives a lot of flavor to meals. Applied as a spice, thyme has multiple uses.

Also, thanks to its properties, the intake of its essential oil, at least twice a day, can help overcome dysmenorrhea.


  • 1 tablespoon thyme leaves 815 g)
  • ½ cup olive oil or water (125 ml)

What should you do?

  • In case you have thyme stems, you should defoliate them.
  • Wash the leaves and place them in a bowl.
  • With a mortar, crush them sufficiently until they release the grease and oil.
  • Strain the oil from the leaves.
  • Dilute it with water or other natural oils.

5. Milk with cinnamon

Dairy products have hundreds of properties favorable to the body and in the case of menstrual pains are no exception. Together with cinnamon, which has analgesic properties, they form a powerful remedy against dysmenorrhea.

Note: Although its consumption can be done together with meals, it is recommended to do so later.


  • 1 cup cow’s milk (250 ml)
  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon powder (45 g)

What should you do?

  • Heat the milk in a pot and slowly add the cinnamon.
  • Let it boil for a quarter of an hour.
  • Serve hot and consume after meals.
